From Past to Present: Cultural Magazines

As the Boğaziçi University Islamic Studies Club (BİSAK), we organized the event “From Past to Present: Cultural Magazines” between December 15 and 18, aiming to spark interest in magazine culture and highlight the importance of intellectual-literary movements. Throughout the event, participants experienced a program filled with magazine exhibitions and enjoyable talks.
Magazine Exhibition (December 16-18 - North Pyramid)
Issues selected from archives and collections of many important magazines from the past to the present were exhibited. This exhibition illuminated cultural and literary heritage, offering visitors a nostalgic and educational experience.
Talks
December 15 (NH 101)
The event began with Ömer Lekesiz's talk titled "The Journey of Islamic Magazines in Turkey." Participants gained valuable insights into the historical development of magazine culture in Turkey.
December 16 (GKM Ayhan Şahenk)
In a talk with İsmail Kılıçarslan, Furkan Çalışkan, and Yusuf Genç, the literary magazine Cins was discussed.
December 17 (NH 405)
An insightful session was held with Hakan Arslanbenzer, Elyesa Koytak, and Eren Safi, discussing Fayrap magazine and the concept of “Populist Culture.”
December 18 (NH 101)
The event concluded with a talk featuring Fatma Barbarosoğlu and Nazife Şişman, offering significant evaluations on social issues with a focus on Nihayet magazine.
