War on Terrorism and Islamophobia
As the Boğaziçi Islamic Studies Club, we are organizing an important event addressing war, terrorism, and Islamophobia. Following the 9/11 attacks, the "War on Terror" declared by the United States was framed outside traditional rules of warfare. But what is the legal status of this war, and what consequences might it bring in the future?
In this event, Mujahid Dattani, a PhD candidate in Law at SOAS University and an expert in international law, examined the intersection of the Law of Armed Conflict and terrorism. His talk focused on how the rules of war and criminal law have been selectively applied, undermining the legal protections these very laws are meant to provide.
